Couponing & coupons in Canada continues to grow…rapidly. There have been a number of entrance to this sector over the past year (Ebates, Retailmenot, etc) and many more large ones to come (we will mention their names in a later post).

This week, another large entrant into the world of Coupons was announced. Teambuy. Yes, Teambuy. They announced the launch of a couponing section on both and Why coupons for Teambuy? As we wrote before, Teambuy’s goal is to be the premier destination for all things deals in Canada, whether that’s a local offer, a product deal or online coupons, it all makes sense for consumers.

In entering the couponing space, Teambuy now competes with the likes of Red Flag Deals, Retailmenot, Ebates,, Mr. Rebates, Savealoonie,, and dozens of others for the attention of consumers who wish to save on their shopping. However, Red Flag Deals is, by far, the largest couponing service in the country.

Is this a good business idea for Teambuy?

You bet. Most consumers have little time or patience to go searching for Canadian based offers, coupons, deals. Although retail coupons are not that abundant in Canada, Canadian consumers seem to appreciate visiting one destination to get them all. The US has thousands and thousands of ecommerce stores offering coupons and deals through hundreds of Coupon sites (now including Living Social) but Canada only has perhaps a hundred or so ecommerce stores available promoted through a few dozen coupon sites. Seeing that Teambuy already markets its deals to over 2.5 million consumers in Canada, it also makes sense for them to promote coupons to these consumers. Their present couponing section was developed in time for the holiday season. However, I am certain that further features are planned for the 2014 year.

If consumers can start using Teambuy as their coupon starting point, if Teambuy can execute their couponing strategy well, and given the size of Teambuy’s database, I fully anticipate them becoming a leading provider of coupons in Canada.
