I am presently in San Francisco at the BIA/Kelsey Daily Deals conference. It is quite eye opening as to the amount of national brands that are here evaluating a daily deal strategy. Daily Deals have now moved to the desk of brand managers, marketing managers, and agencies as a viable promotional vehicle for to brand and retailers.

In Canada, there have not been many national deals from top brands or retailers. The majority of deals have been local. I anticipate that this will change coming into the holiday season.

I was contacted by one of the founders of Buytopia, a Daily Deal service out of Toronto, recently to let me know of an upcoming deal they will be promoting. Thank you Ryan for letting us know. Although we normally do not promote specific deals for any deal sites, yes I believe it is worthwhile for our readers to know about this one. It is news worthy and has value. Here is the info:

Buytopia will be launching a nation wide deal with Sears Canada this Wednesday – according to Ryan from Buytopia, they will be the largest Canadian retailer to be featured on a daily deals site. The offer is $25 for $50 worth of Sears Merchandise and can be used at any of the 426 locations across Canada.

This is a strong offer from a top retailer in the Country. If it does well, then look for top national players like Groupon, Living Social, Dealfind, Wagjag, Teambuy, Dealoftheday(yellow pages) and Kijiji to knock on top Retailer doors even more. As Daily Deals become more mainstream and as larger retailers and brands understand the impact they may have on customer acquisition and sales, we believe that it is simply a matter of time before we see other large retailers use  Daily Deal sites as a marketing distribution method.
